shit yo

last saturday, as i returned to my apartment after spending the afternoon working on an art project and having coffee with kevin, i came back to find my block and nearby areas full of ambulances, firefighters, paramedics and related parafernalia of a fire scene. i almost shit my pants. my best friend's apartment burned to the bone one specially brutal winter, leaving me baffled that you could lose your shit so quickly. that same winter, i parked my car in logan square to realize, two hours later, that the car in front of it was burning, again to the bone. my car survived. my friend survived. but i am scared of fire, especially electrical fires that happen in the winter due to negligence/general old and fucked state of things that have little to do with people.

my apartment did not burn down, but the one across the street from it did. to the bone. a huge family on twenty is homeless. dogs died. a kid died. i am hesitant to leave any electrical appliances connected while i am gone. and i want to check how my neighbors are taking care of these matters, considering that they are a bunch of hipsters/drunks/individuals that i fancy irresponsible.

i am hoping that my landlord, being a firefighter, takes matters in his own hands. and buys us some good karma.
